  • WEEKEND RIDE IN JARRAHDALE ANYONE????

    October 22nd, 2009

We have been getting some queries about when we are having our next ride, so I thought I would make a suggestion and see if anyone is interested.  I am happy to host a weekend ride in Jarrahdale, with overnight camp here at my place, to make it easier for me!!! No extra organisation for camping somewhere.
Saturday would be a meet in Jarrahdale at the Jarrahdale Oval at about 12.30 pm and ride to Tony Gyles for a quick visit then over to the Railway line and down to the South West Highway Mundijong for a quick afternoon tea, and then back up the hill to the floats following the old railway line back again.  This would be suitable for carts.  Distance would be approx 20 – 25  km.
We would then float back to my place and camp with possibly a hot spa on offer at the end….. at least a hot shower anyway.
Next day we would pack up camp and float over to the Cnr of Rails Court and South West Highway in South Armadale, arriving there about 9.30 am – 10.00 am and then ride along the Wungong Valley and up to the top of the Byford Hills, for those wanting a shorter ride that day, they could ride to the Wungong Dam and back again.  This unfortunately is not suitable for carts as CALM won’t give permission for them to ride in this area and it is all gated off.  If there are carts who do want to come for the weekend I could arrange a separate ride in the Darling Downs area which is very suitable for carts and easy to follow on a map.  Distance on Sunday will depend on how much people want to do.
Both of these rides can be shortened if the weather is very warm and ridden in the evening or early morning if necessary, as applicable.
It would be BYO everything, but there will be plenty of human and horse water, of course, at my place as well as all the modern conveniences.
So, please let me know if you are interested and if I get enough people to make it an event, which will only take a couple. I will give proper ride details later.

Click CONTACT US in this website to email me if you are interested.

Riding with other ATHRA Affiliated Clubs

    September 30th, 2009

This is just to let you all know that as ATHRA members we can join in other club’s events who are affiliated without having to pay for insurance again, as we are already covered.  The clubs currently affiliated in WA are:

    W A Horse Trekkers Club

    Albany Natural Trail Riders

    Coolgardie Pleasure Riding Club

    Esperance Riders Club

Boddington Riding Club – Yes it’s official they have joined!!!!

Currently I send to all WAHTC members the Albany Natural Trail Riders Newsletter when it is sent to me, which keeps us up to date on what they are up to and I am sure they would love for some of us to join in with what they are doing. Their latest newsletter is attached which has their up and coming ride details in it.

Boddington Riding Club have already invited us to join them on a ride in Quindanning along part of the same trail that will be used for the Boddington Endurance Ride they are hosting at the end of October, which they have also invited us to as this is a fundraiser for their club.  The ride along part of the Endurance trail is to be held on Sunday, 11th October starting at about 8.30am and Angela Davies has offered her place as somewhere to stay the Saturday night since it is an early start.  Angela can be contacted by email on angela.davies@westnet.com.au or by phone on 08 9885 7178.  This ride will be a Boddington Riding Club Ride.  Those with carts will need to check with Angela if this ride is suitable.

They would also love for us to come along to the Social 25 km ride which is part of the Boddington Endurance Ride details of which are below.

    Boddington Endurance Ride

Boddington Riding Club is hosting it’s inaugural endurance ride on Saturday 31st October. This new ride has everything the serious endurance rider and the recreational social rider are looking for. Varied terrain of natural bush and farmland offers spectacular views across the valleys in this beautiful rolling landscape one hour south of Armadale.  There is a stimulating 80 km official course for the serious competitor’s, and a shorter 40 km training ride for those with young or new horses.  Social riders who want to enjoy a 25 km leisurely ramble through lovely countryside are encouraged to come along and meet the friendly folk at Boddington.  Great camping facilities are available.  W.A. Endurance Riders Assn. endorses the ride which will be conducted under their rules and the 40 km and 25 km rides are open to non members of the Association.  Details of the ride are on the website www.waera.asn.au or from Melissa Taylor 9883 9108 or 0428 988 391.

Now we have more clubs joining ATHRA this is a great opportunity for us to meet more people, see more of this great country of ours and just get out and enjoy some more riding.

    Happy Riding this Spring!!!

Murchison Trek – Change of Dates

    June 8th, 2009

The changing of dates for the Murchison Trek has been finalised and is now confirmed.

The Trek will now be held from 31st August – 11 Sept 2009. Non-refundable Deposits for the trek need to be paid by 17th July 2009 and final payment is due no later than 14th August 2009

We should have a newsletter out shortly detailing some weekend rides we are planning to hold over the next couple of months which we would strongly recommend new members and new horses intending to go on the trek make every effort to attend. It is club policy that any one wanting to attend our annual two week trek must attend at least two rides with the horse they intend using before attempting the whole two weeks. We would appreciate members complying to this policy as it is in the interest of your own safety, the safety of your horse and all other riders and horses on the trek! This years trek is again in a very remote area of our great state and when an incident occurs to either horse or rider it can have some very dire consequences!!!!

For more details please refer to contacts on this website.

Denmark Deposit and Membership 2009 DUE!!!!

    January 30th, 2009

    Hello Trekkers,

This is just a quick reminder that deposits of $100 for the Denmark Trek were due on 28th January 2009. So far we have 13 participants and 9 horses. If you would still like to come, we will be accepting deposits until 4th February, but there will not be any late entries or payments accepted after this date. If you need a form they are available under forms link above. Final payment for the trek will be due on 28th February.

Membership Forms and Fees for 2009 are also now due. At our AGM last weekend it was decided to leave the membership fee the same this year, which is $60.00. If you are a new member you will need to pay a $20.00 joining fee also. To be able to participate for more than two days on any trek, including Denmark, participants will have to be members, so membership needs to be paid along with the Denmark deposit to be eligible as a participant.

Any new members wanting to participate on the Denmark trek are requested to attend the Long Weekend ride in March (February 28, March 1-2), 2009 in Bridgetown as an introduction to trekking and to make sure both horse and rider are up to riding 192kms in 7 days with no rest days.

If anyone has any questions or queries, please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Anna Sheehan

    WAHTC Secretary
